An Abstract Nature: Part III

Water shortages have been at the forefront of media coverage and the minds of many recently, such as this article on a new Science Advances study on how severe water scarcity has an impact on two thirds of the world’s population.

That could be why oceanic blues are making an appearance in design this year as mentioned here by Kate Franklin of FranklinTill Studio. It’s also interesting to note that Snorkel Blue is one of Pantone’s shades for Spring 2016.

Victor Castanera’s Undae collections feature homeware and table surfaces that are meant to imitate the movement of waves. These are constructed by pouring resin vertically into a mould in layers, creating the impression of wave contours for a more realistic outcome.

Undae #1 was made using blue and black pigments while Undae #2’s sandy textures were achieved with wood flour and saw dust.

The Toadstool collection by Masquespacio for Missana includes upholstered puffs of colour placed upon various combinations of marble, wood and golden-plated metal. Plush shapes and vibrant colours come together to form a playful selection of organically-shaped furniture, the second project referencing mushrooms in this series after the Fungo chandelier.
